If you need to disconnect the washing machine, to either have it repaired or even replace with new, the process isn’t really difficult, it is just that there is a very high risk if it is not done in the right way you will have a flooded kitchen or utility room. Before the you start you will need to pull the machine away from the wall and unplug the mains electrical supply. If your machine has two hoses (hot and cold), turn them both off and disconnect the hoses. This can be done locally as they should be fitted with isolators on each one, they are usually chrome isolation valves that attach to the appliances hose(s). To turn off, move the lever 90°, so it is across the pipe do this for both, they are, blue for cold and red for hot. Keep a container hand to collect any excess water underneath the valve. Undo the hoses by hand, (you could need a wrench). Check that isolation valves are closed and are not leaking. A Kentish Town Plumber can fit a new washing machine. New washing machines are now mainly cold water fed only.If a tap leaks:1). Isolate the water supply at the main stop-cock this time. Drain system at the kitchen sink open the faulty chrome tap and drain the water away.2). Undo the nut at the rear of the valve and take off, its that simple.3). You should have a new one ready of course you can now go ahead and fit the new chrome tap. You can use the old nut and olive if you want. If the olive looks damaged either use PTFE tape or maybe even cut the pipe back and fit a new nut and olive on the new end. Kentish Town Plumbers fit new 90 degree chrome taps. NOTE : Not replacing the old machine just yet but still removing the old one. Blank both chrome isolators and the waste water discharge pipe.
